I am just about to solo, and have decided that ownership is the way I want to go. I have narrowed down my search to either a Piper or a Cirrus. I like the glass panel of the cirrus, and I heard that Piper is putting a Glass panel in the new 6X. Can anyone give me any more pros/cons of each aircraft? what has your own experience been with these aircraft? Any informatoin would be greatly appreciated! thanks

The Piper 6x is fine is you have almost 500k to get the glass cockpit version. The same performance is available (well, a little bit faster & less gas) if you choose the Cirrus SR22, but you get only 4 seats and 100k+ left in the bank

The piper 6x is just a rehashed cherokee 6. The only plus it has over the Cirrus is it is a 6 place aircraft. It is slower, More Expensive Uses more fuel etc... IMHO I would choose the Cirrus

I have been a Cirrus instructor for the past three years in both the 20 and 22. This is one of the best airplanes I've ever flown or taught in. Insurance has been the only downside. Insurance rates have been higher than most of the other aircraft in its class. Also training requirements are much higher. I wrote an article in IFR Magazine about this airplane. You can read this article online at http://chesavtraining.com/Articles/Dennstaedt_SR22.pdf If you are interested in buying this aircraft, I can put you in touch with the right folks. Or if you'd like to chat, send me an e-mail at scott@chesavtraining.com. [This message has been edited by scottd (edited 03-17-2004).]
