yea, that will sound much much better on a CFI checkride. I think I can come up with some diagrams/drawings to compliment it. Thanks.

Thats cool. I will definetly remember that. I will try it when I start my CFII training.

I have had a hard time finding an in depth answere to explain the relationship of Center of Gravity to Center of Presure/lift. We know that if the CG is slightly forward of the center of lift it produces more stability. Anyone have something better?

Flight School » Questions about the commercial Sep 8, 2001 04:59 PM (Total replies: 5)

I am getting ready to start my commercial training and have a question about the airplane I should use. My current flight school does not have a complex, they have two C-150's and a 172. They keep telling me to do most of my training on the 172 and then do my 10 hours of complex. I have been flying with them for almost two years and most of my 220 hours. They have been good to me and I have a spot as a CFI waiting for me. The problem is I think it would be better to do the rest of my time in the complex. I think this would better prep me for the checkride and only give me one plane to know. It would only cost a couple of hundred dollars more for plane rental and maybe a hundred dollars more for instruction fees as I figuir it, I would just hate to piss off my flight school. The complex planes would either be an Archer or a Mooney, both low wing. The only low wing time I have is about 6 hours in a cherokee 180, would this be a problem in transitioning the menuevers between planes? If you have been here before I would appreciate the feedback.

Flight School » Spins Jul 13, 2001 06:35 PM (Total replies: 22)

See one, do one, teach one. Thats what I learned in the Marine Corp. Everybody seems to be getting too nervous about spins. Know proper technique as well as your airplanes performance envelope and don't operate outside it. Stay coordinated and don't get slow and low. I think if you are afraid of something it is time to learn more about it. I don't make a habit of spining, at least not until I start instructing, and besides, their tuff on the gyro's.

Tower Talk » File a Flight Plan? Jun 26, 2001 09:59 PM (Total replies: 12)

I file a VFR flight plan about 40-50% of the time. That is on x-country flights anyways. It is easy to file it with the preflight weather breafer before you go and only takes a moment. I usually don't file on the return trip though. Flight following, well that is just a matter of what mood I am in. There are flight conditions that cause me to use it religously however, flying VFR over the midle of Iowa on a nice day, I wouldn't worry to much about being able to find a suitable place to land, even without power.

Flight School » logging PIC time Jun 26, 2001 07:49 PM (Total replies: 6)

Scottd,
Thanks, everybody seems to be telling me the same thing. Myself and my friend are both appropriatly rated (its only a cessna 150). We both agree to be pilot in comand when acting as a safety pilot. The part about logging only the time that my friend is under the hood as PIC is a good point. Up to this point I have been logging the entire flight and intend on going back and changing that. It shouldn't add up to a whole lot anyways.
This arrangment virtually cuts the cost of airplane rental in half and makes for a very economical way of gaining hours. It is also a good learning experiance to watch others practice approaches. If anyone can see a reason it shouln't be logged I would sure like to hear it.

Flight School » logging PIC time Jun 25, 2001 09:00 PM (Total replies: 6)

I have been working on my instrument rating and have been taking turns acting as a safty pilot with a friend. My question is since I am responsible for the safty of the flight while acting as the safty pilot can I log this time as PIC even though my friend is logging it as PIC time since he was the sole manipulator of the controls? Who would I speak with to get the final word on it?

Flight School » Hood time Apr 24, 2001 02:31 AM (Total replies: 1)

I am looking for someone who may be intersted in logging some time as a safty pilot. I need the hood time for my instrument rateing but can not afford to pay someone to sit there. I live in the Kansas City area, so if you are anywhere near and interested let me know.
