| What is the
Trip Planner? |
The AeroPlanner.com Trip Planner is an interactive vector
representation of the NOAA VFR Planning Charts. This data is taken from
the latest FAA information. As you choose your destination points on the left side
of the page, your route will be plotted in "highlighter green" as you "connect the dots".
Below the planning chart, leg information is placed in a table. The leg information includes
course, distance, and winds aloft information. After you have made one leg, by entering at least 2 points
you can press the trip-tick link on the
bottom of the chart and get an overview map with each seperate, printable
chart outlined. Then click on the number of the outline and you can step through each print.
Below
the trip-tick diagram, is a set of buttons for each
cut-out. You can press each button and it will display the
5x7 in printable page, we also include a scale at the bottom.
The scale is no longer 1:500,000 but is slightly zoomed in to make it
more readable. Please do not use these printouts for your sole
navigation source, as they are only intended for familarization
before flight.
To Print
the trip-tick, simply go to the file print
menu item on your web brower.
| The "Use Map" Function
explained |
You can choose a destination point by clicking on "Use Map" in the menu pulldown, then
by clicking on an airport, navaid or waypoint. Usually, there is more than one item to choose from.
In this case, the menu will say "pick one" and then you pick
again from the menu box
The map has a border that has
directions on it. If you click the border, the map will be panned 1
full map width in that direction. You can also click on the inside
of the map and it will be recentered to wherever you clicked. When
you click on a feature on the map, the page will be refreshed with all of
the info about that feature. There will also be a or a zoom in button that will allow you to change the zoom
level. On the sectional charts, this is limited to a certain
range. If the map seems to refresh too slow, then be sure to chose
"small map" in your settings before starting with the SmartChart. If
you have faster than a 56k modem (ADSL, Cable etc...) then definitely use
the "large" map.
Note, that you cannot perform these
map funtions on the printable trip-tick page. |
